Utility and Property Tax Comparison

Share

Below you will find an estimation of monthly expenses on property taxes and Utilities for a “Standard” Georgetown resident compared to the expected expenses that same resident would incur if they were living in some of the surrounding communities.  This page is intended to provide residents a reference point for evaluating the value they get from basic City and Utility services.  It is not to suggest that someone moving to Georgetown will pay exactly these costs and it assumes the following:

The “Standard” Georgetown resident has this profile:

$184,959 is the valuation on the home.

They use 10,000 gallons of water and 8,000 gallons go to the sewer every month, with a meter size of 3/4″.

They will consume 1,100 kWhs of electricity in a month, and will have standard garbage pick up of at least once a week at in-city rates.

Property Tax rates are pulled from the appraisal districts (WCAD, TCAD, and BCAD)

Rate Assumptions include:

Austin garbage rate evaluated at the 90 gallon container and uses Austin Energy summer rates.

Cedar Park and Leander assumes Pedernales Co-op electric rates.

Round Rock, Hutto, Taylor, Temple, and Pflugerville are deregulated in electricity, and so the lowest TXU 12 month rate is used in their calculations.

Standard Georgetown Home – 12/01/11

All rates are based upon those in effect as of 12/01/2011.  Note that Georgetown has adopted a new stormwater rate to be effective March 1st of 2012.  They are also reviewing Electric and Garbage rates but those may not be adjusted this year.  Round Rock and Austin are also reviewing rates and some adjustments to Electric and Water and garbage rates may occur during 2012.

Average Home Value – 12/01/11

The Average Home Value in each community is different.  The following values are accurate as of 12/01/11, but are not meant to suggest homes at these prices would be comparable:
